We also guide intermediate landlords and management companies where the tenant applies to the freeholder for a statutory lease extension. We ensure terms are agreed upon that protect the intermediate landlord’s position, preventing any negative impact from changes in ground rent obligations and that the new terms do not have a negative impact on management companies.

The legislation governing lease extensions is undergoing a major overhaul due to the Leasehold and Freehold Reform Act 2024. While many parts of the Act have not yet come into force and require secondary legislation, we continue to assist our landlord and management company clients with lease extension matters.
