“Most women’s employer’s are not taking action to support them.”

May 12th 2022

I am talking about women and the menopause and the above title has been taken from probably the largest survey of menopausal women in the UK which was published by the Fawcett Society in April 2022. This report has received much publicity thanks to Channel 4. It makes an interesting read with rather concerning results including that 41% of women have reported that menopausal symptoms or that the menopause had been treated as a joke by colleagues. Such behaviour could potentially give rise to various employment claims including discrimination. This report does make valuable recommendations including putting in place policies, training and support networks. Not only would this support women going through this but it would also help with staff retention and productivity, reduce potential claims as well as decrease sickness absence in the workplace.

Have you or will you now take action to support women at work?

Almost half of women (44%) in employment say their ability to work has been affected by perimenopause and menopause symptoms, yet employers are still failing to address their needs.
