Increase to the National Minimum Wage

November 24th 2023

From 1st April 2024, the national minimum wage is set to increase which represents the largest ever increase in the National Minimum Wage in cash terms. The National Living Wage will also apply to those aged 21 and 22. The new rates that will apply are as follows:-

  • National Living Wage (NLW) (21 and over): £11.44
  • 18-20 year old rate: £8.60
  • 16-17 year old rate: £6.40
  • Apprentice rate: £6.40
  • Accommodation offset: £9.99.

According to the Government’s press release this fulfils its manifesto pledge to end low pay as the increase to the National Living Wage is worth over £1,800 a year for a full time worker.

If this applies to your workers, then make sure you plan for any increases.
