Derek is a Director is the Dispute Resolution team with over 20 years experience. He advises clients on a wide range of commercial and agricultural tenancy issues, including default, termination and exit strategies, as well as all aspects of property disputes, such as rights of way, boundary disputes, adverse possession and restrictive covenants.
He has particular expertise in public rights of way law, advising on objections to new rights of way and applications for diversion and extinguishment orders. He was instructed on the notable Dartmoor case of access to “Vixen Tor”.
Derek also advises on contractual disputes, including commodity contract arbitrations, as well as professional negligence and partnership disputes. His clients include private and commercial clients, farming and agribusinesses, landed estates, developers, quarry companies and charities.
Having started his career as part of the National Farmers Union HQ legal team, and then joining one of the largest specialist agriculture teams in the country, he has built up a particular specialism in dealing with disputes arising in the farming and rural sector.
Outside of work, Derek is a keen, but average, golfer and keeps (and breeds) quail for their delicious eggs.
