Tips for Minimising Conflict on Separation with Children

September 27th 2024

Separation or divorce can often be a challenging and turbulent time for children therefore it is important to establish them into a new routine as soon as possible.

What works best for you may not work best for the children therefore it is essential that their best interests remain a priority when deciding the contact arrangements with the other parent. There are many resources available to parents to assist you with the difficult task of navigating life as separated parent such as:

  • Parenting Plans. This is an agreed plan setting out how the children will be cared for, what time they will spend with each parent, how the holidays will be split and how key decisions about the children will be made. There are many templates online which can provide a starting point for your own parenting plan.
  • Parenting Apps. These are apps specifically designed to enable parents to share information about every aspect of their children’s lives. Many have features such as shared calendars, video/telephone call options, the option to request re-imbursements for agreed costs relating to the children’s expenses etc…

It is important children are protected from parental acrimony and by utilising tools such as parenting plans or apps, you are choosing to take the heat out of an already very emotional situation and putting the children first.

It is important to have the right people around you, and at SE Solicitors we can assist you, from obtaining a legally binding child arrangements order to protecting your interests in contested proceedings. As members of Resolution, we are committed to taking a non-confrontational approach to help achieve a better outcome for separated families.
