Marking Shaw’s first UK exhibition of new work since 2015, Night Sonnets explores the artist’s lifelong fascination with moonlight and conditions of the night.
Exploring the World After Dark
Bringing together a series of vibrant, highly-detailed nocturnal paintings and a striking large-scale tapestry, Night Sonnets is shaped by Shaw’s memories of the moonlit landscapes of his childhood in Kashmir, as well as inspirations drawn from poetry, opera and mythology.
Created at night while the city around his studio sleeps, the works reveal richly layered scenes where moonlight, firelight and shadow continually transform the landscape. Through these new works, Shaw invites visitors to slow down, look closely and reflect on their own relationship with the world after dark.
