The Divorce, Dissolution and Separation Act 2020, along with the introduction of a Court Portal for divorce, has made the process of applying for a divorce much more straightforward.
The only ground for divorce is that one or both of the parties believes that the marriage has irretrievably broken down. There is no longer a need for either party to the divorce to give reasons for the breakdown of the marriage. The only basis for contesting a divorce now is if the Courts of England and Wales do not have jurisdiction to process the application.
However, applying for divorce remains a significant legal step and taking the advice of a solicitor can still prove invaluable. For instance, it is important to ensure that aspects of the financial separation arising from the divorce are considered early on in the divorce proceedings.
SE-Solicitors offer a fixed fee package for most divorces. This means that you will know from the outset what you will pay and we can prepare all the necessary documents and correspondence on your behalf, submit them via the Court Portal and update and advise you as the application progresses.
Our charges are as follows:
- £210 plus VAT to apply for a divorce (together with the Court fee of £612)
- £110 plus VAT to respond to a divorce application.
